(Simple dipole feed):

N and S wires driven.
E and W wires unconnected.

Model: x45dipole2.ez (simulation frequency set to 24.9MHz).
Max gain is at ±17° from wire direction.

Splayed dipole feed:

N and W wires connected.
S and E wires conneceted.

Model: x45splay2.ez (at 24.9MHz).
