Joining the NLOS Radio Group
Membership of the NLO Society Radio Group (RG) is open to all paid-up and honorary members of the NLO Society, but RG members must sign an additional agreement saying that they are prepared to abide by the RG rules. (see foot of this page)
The radio group enjoys the superb facilities at the NLO, we have two radio shacks, VHF and HF, these are equiped with the groups radio equipment, a Icom 856 pro for HF, this is used with Ham Radio Delux software, the equipment in the VHF shack is usually the property of individual members, we are active on 144mkz (all modes) and also on 70 mhz FM, members have the oppurtunity of using their own equipment on the radio groups aerials, which from our superb location will show the full capabilities of their equipment. We operate on contest days and the GB2NLO call sign is always used on open days and whenever we are open to the general public, during other periods the RG callsign G0AXC is used. On RG nights (Tuesdays) the equipment is always on and we welcome skeds with any other operators or other radio clubs, please contact us to arrange a sked, 70.450 FM and GB3SW (145.7125) are always monitored, for a contact on HF e mail us on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Radio Group rules specify the way in which the RG handles the administration of its various radio transmitting licences and meets its legal obligations. The rules also require RG members to seek training in the use of unfamiliar equipment, to look after the equipment and report any problems, and to take a responsible attitude towards the safety of themselves and others.
The interests of the group cover both the scientific and operational aspects of radio, it is not necessary to be a licenced radio amateur to be a group member.
